Abstract

Among the diagnosis of allergic disease, the skin test has been the most commonly used method. Recently, newly developed chemiluminescent assay is used for determination of serum specific IgE. Chemiluminescent assay is rapid, easy to perform,
reproducible and cost effective in comparison to radioimmunoassay technique.
In our studies, we evaluated allergic skin test and chemiluminescent assay to house dust, D. farinae, D. pteronyssinus and mugwort pollen in 74 patients of allergic rhinitis. The results came out good relationships between two different methods.
The chemiluminescent assay could offer a valuable method for mass screening of serum specific IgE antibody to common inhalant allergens. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:6, 1995)
